Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP)

CIP codes are used to identify degree and certificate programs, courses, and declared majors on the reports and inventories of the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS). CIP was originally developed by the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). Click Here for more information from the NCES.

Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM)

Includes students in the same CIP codes as the NSF-defined STEM fields for science, technology, computer science, engineering, and math. See the complete list from NSF.

Health Professions and Related Programs (Health)

Degrees awarded in the CIP codes starting with 51- are considered Health Professions and Related Programs (Health).

Notes

The UT Brownsville and UT Pan American campuses closed at the end of AY 2015. UT Rio Grande Valley began enrolling students in Fall 2015.
